Memorial Day weekend - Cutty's Sunset Resort

We spent the entire weekend with my family and two friends and their families. We really had a great time despite the wet conditions. In case you don't know, it has pretty much rained the majority of the spring (and is continuing into the summer) so the campground was saturated to begin with and the rain each night didn't help matters at all. Add to that, Bryan getting his vacation time messed up and well I wasn't a happy camper at first. But like everything, we made the best of it and off we went to the campground. Thankfully Bryan was able to salvage some of the trip as he joined us on Saturday night after work. Yes, this means yours truly had to tow our camper TWO hours. I was a nervous wreck. At one point, I couldn't figure out why my feet were hurting so bad and I realized it was because I even had my TOES clenched. We made it there in one piece though and had a great time with everyone. And even better was that the weather shaped up on Sunday and we were able to enjoy the pool and the childrens' play area (which is why we picked this campground). The campground also had lots of planned activities - a hayride type thing, parachute fun and so on.

I have also decided that I'm going to review campgrounds this year so here's my thoughts:

I am doing bathrooms first b/c quite honestly they tend to make or break my visit.

Bathrooms - ALWAYS very clean. I saw staff there 2/3 times every day cleaning up mud (which was a lot due to the weather) and checking on the conditions. Also the shower stall in the bathroom by our sites was very nice and spacious. I always appreciate a bigger shower area b/c I'm typically showering the kids with me. Downfall to that - only one shower in our bathhouse. There were more bathhouses though.

Sites - my friend had one that wasn't great due to weather (swampy) but thanks to the wonderful staff, she was quickly moved to another site the next morning. Sites were definitely spacious and that is always appreciated.

Amenities - the playground was very nice and mostly modern with the exception being the merry go round. Yes they still had one. This seems to be pretty par for the course for most campgrounds though. However the playset for the kids was very new and in good shape. The pool and sprayground area was amazing. I think online it said it had just opened last year. Very well maintained and a lot of fun. The planned activities were great.

Staff - absolutely awesome. Everyone was so nice and accomodating. At one point a seasonal camper was having issues with their drain pipe and a staff member saw it on his rounds. Not even 10 minutes later, they were fixing it.

Activities in the area - I did not leave the campground this particular trip but my parents and some of my friends did. They hit a flea market just up the road and said it was very nice and HUGE. Also WalMart wasn't too far which made it nice for refills of....pop.

Rate - $29 per night

I can't think of any more categories but if I do I'll update.

I am going to give this place an overall rating of EXCELLENT especially given the rate per site! Very good value!

A trip without kids - May 3-8 er 9

This year Bryan and I decided to treat ourselves with a trip to Mexico. We stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya in the Riveria Maya with another couple we are friends with. While there we also met some fabulous new friends from Alabama, San Diego, Pennsylvania and Texas. I have never stayed in an all-inclusive before and I'll tell you what, we picked a great one. It was absolutely wonderful! I even had my first massage - my Mother's Day gift to myself. We are hoping to return to another resort in 2 years and with the same friends we went with & met on this trip.

The only "bad" part of the trip was getting home. Our flight was cancelled due to engine issues and we ended up having to stay another night in Mexico. I know some of you are thinking "poor baby" but when you're set to go home AND AT THE AIRPORT, you're set to go home - even moreso when you're missing your son's baseball game because of it. But oh well, all's well that ends well and we made it home 24 hours later than planned.

Random catch up post - fun stories about Tyler & Delana

I keep falling off the planet here and for that I do apologize. It seems like every time I turn around, something new is coming. Anyway, today I was going back on my infamous mom board searching on the word "Tyler" and here's some stuff I've missed in my absence here

January 31: I love Tyler's confidence!

Last week he INSISTED on wearing a Christmas shirt to school. It wasn't just a red/white/black/green shirt, it was clearly a Christmas shirt. It was the Gymboree or Crazy 8 one that says, "I'm Santa's favorite!" I asked him, "Are you SURE you want to wear this? It is a Christmas shirt and Christmas is over." He said, "Why wouldn't I want to wear it?" to which I replied, "Well buddy I just don't want you getting upset if someone would tease you about it." He just said, "Mom I don't care about that. I want to wear this shirt today."

Okay then. Rock on with your Christmas shirt dude!


December 15: Tyler brought home a picture from his buddy today

Unfortunately Jacob made the "p" backwards and it maybe looked a little like a "g". Yeah I got a good laugh!


November 5: So turns out Tyler talks too much
(This is in reference to parent teacher conferences with his 1st grade teacher Mrs. Cook.)

Hahaha, this not surprising! She didn't say it was a problem but that "he likes to talk" and then she just went on & on about how all the teachers love him & think he's just so cute with his glasses. She showed me how they do the AR stuff and explained why it was put back into the classrooms instead of in the library (like it is for the older kids) which was because some of the 1st graders aren't getting into the system right and were getting zeroes so the teachers asked for it to be done in their rooms so they can help them a bit easier. Let's see what else...oh we talked about his behavior/maturity and she told me that "Tyler is a leader" and "very smart." Yeah....that's what I like to hear.


October 15: What Delana wants for Christmas according to Tyler

So on the way home tonight, I started the what do you want to ask Santa for conversation trying to plant some ideas. Tyler gave me some ideas pretty quickly but Delana wasn't saying much. I heard Tyler whispering something to her and then he said, "Tell her Delana. Tell her what you are asking Santa for." She didn't say anything so I asked Tyler to tell me. He said:

WARNING: PUT YOUR DRINK DOWN! You've been warned! I'm just saying!

"She wants a pecker for Christmas."
I said, "WHAT?"
Tyler, "Mom she wants a pecker. That's what she wants."
Me, "Tyler I don't think so."
Tyler, sighing and with eye roll "Mom, she's been wanting a pecker since she was one!"

Can you just picture my kid telling your token dept store Santa that his little sister wants a pecker for Christmas? Goodness!!!


September 1: Delana and flag football

Last week at practice, there were extra flags and so of course Delana wanted a set to wear. OMG, it was adorable!

Anyway, fast forward to last night. Delana remembered and asked for flags again. The she promptly told the coach, "I'm going to show (up) those boys!"

July 18: Tyler was just downstairs making what we thought was a birthday card for Bryan

since his birthday was this past Friday. And I guess it is still kind of a card.

On the outside it says:
Daddy, have a nice summer

On the inside it says:
I love you daddy (awwww!) beekus you are druk

Yes, seriously, my son wrote this. Then underneath he drew all 4 of us and he put drinks in me and Bryan's hands.

Okay there's some fun highlights of oh the past 6 months.
